Glen Gary “Butch” Burgess, 78, of Aberdeen, Washington, passed away on Aug. 25, 2025, at Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen.
Born in Aberdeen on Oct. 1, 1946, Butch was a lifelong resident of the Harbor and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1964. He went on to dedicate 46 years of his career to Weyerhaeuser in Cosmopolis before retiring in 2005.
Butch proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965–1968 aboard the U.S.S. Henry B. Wilson and U.S.S. G.K. MacKenzie. He later continued his service in the Naval Reserves in 1971, earning honors including the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Beyond his work and service, Butch was best known for his love of music. A gifted lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist, he performed with several local bands — including Ambush, DeSoto Rose, Fantasy, Just’Cuz, and Time Capsule — sharing his talent and passion on stages throughout Grays Harbor. Music was not only his pastime, but a part of his spirit.
Butch was a longtime member of the Eagles, Elks Lodge, 40 et 8, and VFW of Aberdeen. He found joy in community, family, and the place he always called home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pamela Jane Burgess of Aberdeen; his sons Jeffery Burgess of Olympia, Washington and Scott (Susan) Burgess of Austin, Texas; siblings Ed (Donna) Burgess of Elma, Washington, Jacquie (Tom) Shay of Aberdeen, and Sue (Jim) Skinner of Satsop, Washington; grandchildren Jacob, Haley, Kameron, Kaylee, Aaron, Rosette, Daniel, Aleeta, Matt, Lindsey, and Madelynn; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Leola Burgess.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Senior Center, officiated by Rick Moyer.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to PAWS of Grays Harbor in Butch’s memory, reflecting his love for animals and the community.
