On Nov. 30, 2025, there was a spectacular sunset of bright orange, red and yellow. It was the Lord welcoming Nita home. Nita was a woman of faith who truly loved the Lord. She was a member of the Pacific Beach Community Church and a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, dear friend and mentor. She was 72 years old and had faithfully fought a hard battle with cancer.

Nita came to the North Beach in 1976 with her two sons, John and Mark, to work in her father’s mill in Moclips. She was known as a hard worker who had many jobs where she made lasting friends. Over the years she worked in the area at Ocean Crest Resort and independently as a grounds keeper, landscaper, caregiver and meticulous house cleaner.

Nita was honest and trustworthy. She always said what she thought with no false pretenses. For over 36 years she mentored people with addictions and led the local AA chapter in Moclips. Nita loved her friends and family and her six fur babies. She was preceded in death by her father, James Palmer and the love of her life, Jimmy Jones, who she was looking forward to seeing again.

Nita is survived by her mother, Nancy Althof; sons, John (Rose) Johnson and Mark (Jaime) Johnson; former husband, Jerry Johnson; grandchildren: Howard, Johnny, Emily and Madison Johnson; four great-grandchildren;, sisters; Debbie Yanez, Jeri Houser, Kim Shelly, Lisa Palmer and Jamie Mowry; brothers; Jimmie Palmer, Sam Althof, Mick Heenan and Raymond Gregson; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

We extend a special thank you to her sister Jeri for her loving care of Nita during her illness.

There will be a celebration of her life later in the spring.
