Beverly “Bev” Ann Smith, 89, of Montesano passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025. at home after a brief illness.

Beverly “Bev” Ann Smith, 89, of Montesano passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025. at home after a brief illness.

Bev was born Nov. 16, 1935. in Los Angeles, California to parents Fred and Helen Smith where she lived the first five years of her life. Her family moved north to Redding, California until her teenage years when they moved to Montesano, Washington where she graduated from Montesano High School.

In 1953 Bev married Jim “James R.” Smith in Corvallis, Oregon and they had two sons, Steve and Danny. Bev was a Cub Scout leader when the boys were little.

The family moved around the states and even to the Philippines until 1969.

Bev and Jim settled in the North River valley in Washington and enjoyed living on the river where they raised the boys for over 20 years. They were involved in the 4H program, especially the chickens. She got her real estate license and began acquiring rentals which she managed until her death.

When Bev and Jim divorced, she moved to Hawaii where she lived for 10 years. She even got her real estate license there too.

She was a member of the Catholic Church, loved Jesus and admired Gandhi.

Bev loved animals, especially horses and horseback riding, but had many pets. She was a fun friend of all and always brought a smile to the faces of those she was around. She was kind and loving and is missed by all who knew her.

Bev loved to travel, do yoga and go to the YMCA and help coach senior Olympics. She was blessed to swim with the dolphins. She loved to walk and did so well into her 80s. She would do her exercises every morning with her favorite TV show right up till the end.

She loved chocolate ice cream. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved life.

Bev is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Helen Smith and survived by her two sons, Steve (Judy) of Olympia, and Dan Smith of North River; two grandchildren, Eric Smith and Monica (Brad Braaten) Smith, two great-grandchildren Mason and Ruby Braaten; two sisters, Carolyn Smith of Hoquiam and Marilyn Smith of Cosmopolis; and nephews CJ and Christian Mudgett and Richard Daily.

A celebration of Bev’s life potluck is being held Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Artic Community Hall at 16 Artic Road.
