Man suspected of running over a woman with pickup truck in South Aberdeen

An Aberdeen man was arrested after allegedly hitting a woman with his pickup truck and driving over her Thursday evening on North Boone Street. The victim is being treated for injuries at Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle.

According to Aberdeen Police in a press release, the incident happened near the intersection of Boone Street and Scott Street. Officers were dispatched at 6:41 p.m., and arrived to find a witness performing CPR on the victim, a 27-year-old woman from Hoquiam.

Police say the woman was crossing the intersection on Boone Street from the park side heading toward Swanson’s with her boyfriend, when a white Chevy pickup truck ran the red light and struck the victim, causing her to be thrown forward. Witnesses said there was only a male driver in the vehicle.

After striking the victim, the male driver continued rolling forward and drove over the victim. The driver drove from the scene in the hurry. Witnesses tried to follow the vehicle, but lost it.

Police officers observed that the woman suffered head and hip injuries from the incident, according to Aberdeen Police Lt. Kevin Darst.

One of the witnesses was performing CPR on the victim until the Aberdeen Fire Department arrived and took over. The victim was transported the Grays Harbor Community Hospital and later transported to Harbor View. There are no updates at this time on the status of the victim.

A while after police began searching for the suspect, the man contacted the dispatch service and asked to turn himself in. Officers responded to a South Aberdeen address and arrested the 23-year-old white male suspect, who is being held at Grays Harbor County Jail.

Police say the suspect was cooperative with the investigation and provided a written statement of his account of the incident. The suspect admitted to running the red light and striking the female victim. The suspect said he panicked and fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not charged the suspect yet.
