Sandra Douma Fiegi, 61, of Aberdeen Washington, passed away June 3, 2020, from an unexpected re-occurrence of cancer. Sandra was originally diagnosed two years ago with breast cancer. Cancer was not a battle for her; she embraced it head on and looked at the treatments as an adventure. After her last round of chemo, she wanted a pet as a reward. Walking into the pet store (bald) she told Rocky she needed the chameleon and named it Fluffy (a reflection of her sense of humor coming out of such a hard time).

Born in Bozeman, Montana, on Feb. 10, 1959 to Marvin and Mary Douma, Sandra was full of color and had a passion for learning. Her love for animals was evident as she found her passion for all forms of life on the family farm in Moiese, Montana. There was no animal she discriminated against; she loved them all. After graduating from Charlo High School in 1977, she went to Montana State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Math and Science in 1982. Her sister, Sheila, remembers clearly her saying “I would be a full time student if I could.” This led to her gift of educating others – as all saw throughout her life.

Her life was lived in multiple cities throughout the United States and Sandra viewed each move as a new and exciting adventure.

She taught math and science at Lambert High School, in Lambert, Montana, from 1982-1983. Sandra married the love of her life Rocky Fiegi in 1984 and moved to Texas. She worked for Burns Vet Supply as a rep from 1984-1989 and it was during this time she welcomed their first child Shay.

Sandra and Rocky moved back to Montana in 1989, where she and Rocky were blessed with two more boys, Spencer and Miles. From 1990-2010 she could be found surrounded by her animals, birds, and children, while working from home and raising her family. 4H was a great fit for Sandra as it matched her passion for animals which also had a big impact for her boys. Her activities included cows, chickens, goats, and sheep. Sandra also happily taught quilting, dying fabrics and the basics of chicken farming to anyone who wanted to learn.

Her next path took her back to Montana State University, where she worked in the Library. After moving to Aberdeen, Washington in 2017, she worked at Aberdeen High School as a para-educator. Sandra was happy their mascot is the Bobcats, same as her Alma Mater (Montana State University) Her desire was for every student to have a loving, educated influence in their lives.

Words can’t describe Sandra. However, two attributes stand out: Sandra gave unending unconditional love for her boys, Rocky, her family, her friends, her animals, and her students. Her nieces and nephews remember her for being the most accepting and nonjudgmental person they have ever known.

She was also an amazing person that had an impact on many from all walks of life. Sandra loved arts and crafts. She would master one project and quickly move onto the next. She was constantly creating and loved giving her creations to friends and family. Her family saw this daily, as Sandra had a pair of glasses in every color to match whatever outfit she wore that day. Her love was all encompassing as her home was filled with exchange students from all over the world. A sign in their house states, “Life is short, do everything.” This was Sandra’s outlook on life.

Sandra is survived by her husband Rocky Fiegi, three sons: Shay, Spencer, and Miles Fiegi. Her parents, Marvin and Mary Douma. Sister, Sheila and Doug Syverson, brother, Curt and Cheryl Douma. Nephews, Shawn and Stephanie Syverson, Chase and Sarah (Jaxson and Jett) Syverson, Jake Douma and nieces Shyla Syverson and Jessie Douma. She is also survived by multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cremation arrangments are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
