Prep Roundup: Britany Patrick blasts two home runs in Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s win over Elma

Sophomore’s three-run blast in fifth inning propels Titans to victory

PE ELL — Britany Patrick smacked two home runs to lead Pe-Ell-Willapa Valley to an 11-6 victory over the Elma Eagles on Thursday.

Patrick drove in five runs and her fifth-inning, three-run bomb proved to be the back-breaker for the Titans (16-3).

“She’s the real deal,” Titans head coach Ken Olson said of Patrick. “She can hit and is really swinging the bat well right now.”

It’s Patrick’s team-leading 10th home run. She is hitting .520 on the season with 47 RBI and a 1.315 slugging percentage.

Elma’s Kali Rambo had two hits and a home run for the Eagles (13-5)

Troseth double lifts Bobcats

ROCHESTER – Aberdeen got a bit hit in a big moment from Alley Troseth who drove in all of her team’s runs with a bases-clearing double to give the Bobcats the 3-1 win over Rochester on Thursday.

Troseth’s double plated three runs in the sixth inning in a game that had been scoreless up to that point.

Aberdeen pitcher Jalyn McDaniel and Rochester’s Hunter Hahn were locked in a pitcher’s dual. Outside of Troseth’s bit hit and a scratch run by the Warriors in the sixth, the aces shut down opposing offenses. McDaniel struck out eight in earning the shutout win while Hahn recorded seven strikeouts in the hard-luck loss.

Aberdeen (9-10 overall) head coach Scott Wilson said his team is starting to pick up its play at the right time.

“Our kids have been playing well, I’m very proud of them. they’re showing a fight inside them hat I really appreciate,” he said. “Its the right time of year to be playing your best.”

Aberdeen has finished its regular season schedule and will now prepare to host RA Long on Tuesday in a play-in game for the 2A District Tournament. Time to be determined.

Hoquiam wins pitchers duel on road

SILVERDALE – English Hyde came through with a strong pitching performance in Hoquiam’s 3-1 non-league win over Klahowya on Thursday.

Hyde had 14 strike outs and only surrendered two hits and one unearned run.

Abbi Spradlin and Kylee Bagwell each drove in a run in the fourth inning to give Hyde all the run support she would need..

Hoquiam will finish off its regular season against at 4 p.m. against Ocosta on Friday in Hoquiam.

Lake Quinault falls in extras to Evergreen Lutheran

TACOMA — The Lake Quinault Elks lost a one-run lead in the seventh inning and eventually lost to the Evergreen Lutheran Eagles 4-3 in extra innings on Thursday.

Allen Espinoza had three hits and an RBI for Lake Quinault, which plays Quilcene at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Bremerton.

Chehalis downs Aberdeen

ABERDEEN — The Bobcats girls golf team lost to Chehalis 90-70 on Wednesday at Highlands Golf Course.

Aberden’s Ryder Heikkila was once again the top scorer of the match posting a 25 for a round that included a birdie on the par-3 third hold.

She finished three points better than Chehalis’ top competitor, Kate Balmelli.

The Bobcats (7-4) will compete in next week’s 2A District Tournament on May 16-17 at Orchard Hills Golf Club in Washougal.

Klein second at Champions meet

DUPONT — Representing Grays Harbor Country Club, Gretchen Klein shot a two-day total of 150 to finish three-strokes back of Leslie Fowler for the Women’s Scnior Championship at the Washington State Golf Association’s “Champion of Champions” meet at The Home Course in Dupont on April 24-25.

Klein, who won last year’s event, was six shots better than her 2017 total with two rounds of 75. But Folsom shot a 72 on day one followed by a round of 75 to usurp Rainier Country Club’s Klein as the champion.

Yasue Alkins, representing The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie, carded a second-round ace and took third with a total score of 155.

Boys Soccer

Aberdeen eliminated

TUMWATER — The Aberdeen boys soccer team fell behind by two goals early and never got its offense going in a 6-2 2A District Playoff loss to Black Hills on Thursday, ending the Bobcats’ season.

Black Hills scored goals in both the sixth and 16th minutes of the game to fall behind 2-0, where the scored remained at halftime.

Black Hills extended its lead to 4-0 in the 41st minute before the Bobcats Hulizes Chavez scored from in the box on a cross from Tony Oropeza.

The Wolves (16-3 overall) made it 5-1 on a penalty kick followed by the two teams exchanging goals in the final 20 minutes — Aberdeen (12-6) scoring when Trevor Dawkins took an assist from Oropeza and netted a shot from 20-yards-out to make it a 5-2 match.

Black Hills scored its sixth goal of the match in the 67th minute.

“We were beaten by a team really clicking offensively and we didn’t help our cause by coming out unorganized and uncommunicative at the beginning of each half,” Bobcats head coach Larry Fleming said. “But we played with great effort and never quit until the final whistle.”
