BOYS PREP SOCCER
Raymond-South Bend 1, Elma 0
One goal turned out to be enough as Raymond-South Bend remained undefeated with a 1-0 victory over Elma on Tuesday at Davis Field in Elma.
The Ravens (15-0 overall, 15-0 1A Evergreen) and Eagles (9-6, 9-6) battled through a defensive first half that saw the Ravens appear to have scored a goal late in the first half, only to have it removed from the scoreboard due to an offside call.
In the second half, Raymond-South Bend’s continuous applied pressure paid dividends when sophomore defender Jayden Silva sent a long clearance toward sophomore forward Edgar Ramirez. The ball bounced high in the air where Ramirez tracked it down just outside the 18-yard box, getting his foot on the bouncing ball to flick it over Elma goalkeeper Trey Yeager in the 52nd minute.
The Ravens continued to pressure the Eagles net over the next several minutes, nearly doubling the lead on a shot by senior midfielder Chris Quintana that rang off the near post.
Elma nearly tied the game in the 57th minute when a deflected clearance led to a hard shot by freshman Jordan Kain inside the Ravens’ 18, but versatile senior Evan Cone moved back from his attacking position to block the shot, deflecting the ball out of bounds.
The Ravens defense held firm the rest of the way to secure the 1-0 victory.
Elma head coach Carson Seaberg said playing fifth-ranked Ravens posed problems, but he felt his team handled them well.
“Two things are very importantly defensively,” he said. “You’ve got to be able to win the ball out of the air. We did a much better job of that in the second half. … And you have to be able to withstand their pressure without buckling. You give up one goal and you can’t feel collapsed or defeated because that one goal can become three before you blink. They do a really good job of that.”
Both teams will close out their regular seasons with games at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Elma plays at Forks while Raymond-South Bend hosts Montesano.

Centralia 2, Aberdeen 1
Aberdeen suffered a setback with a 2-1 overtime loss to Centralia on Tuesday in Centralia.
Playing without two of its key players in forwards Elmer Torres and Edgar Ceja, the Bobcats (11-3, 8-2 2A Evergreen) took a first-half lead when senior midfielder Leo Garcia was taken down inside the 18-yard box. Senior forward Marc Avila converted the subsequent penalty kick for a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.
The Tigers (8-8, 4-6) tied the game in the 55th minute when an Aberdeen clearance was intercepted and turned into a breakaway goal.
Aberdeen nearly regained the lead late in the second half when Avila and a 1-on-1 with the Tigers keeper but was called offside.
In the first overtime period, a ball was crossed into the box and deflected off a Bobcats defender and into the net to end the game, and Aberdeen’s seven-game winning streak.
“We put a lot of effort in the entire match but just didn’t have the quality we needed to overall,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said.
Aberdeen enters the 2A District 4 playoffs as the league’s No. 2 seed – three points behind Tumwater (25-22) – and will host R.A. Long at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Stewart Field.
