Gwendolyn “Gwen” Mavis Snodgrass (Johnston), born May 17, 1945, passed on Jan. 3 , 2023, at the age of 77.
She was born to Norman Johnston and Mary Jane Frank in Raymond, Washington. Gwen was a Quinault tribal member raised in the beautiful town of Bay Center. She attended and graduated at South Bend High School, class of ’63.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; Norman Johnston and Mary Jane Nyland, sisters Ronda Axford, Aurylia (Rita) Johnston, Violet (Dee) Bennett, Lavonne Kenneway and Sharon Hatfield, brother Artos (Kim) Bennett, grandchildren Alyssa Jones, Trevor Frank and Terrin Frank and significant other Rich Palo.
She is survived by her sons: Neil Overstake, James (Jet) Overstake, Frankie Overstake and Robert Peterson; daughters: Terra Frank, Ronda Rowe and Rachael Snodgrass; sisters Melba (Bo) Tolliver and Crystal Boothe, as well as 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and special friend John Jones.
Gwen loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The strength that could only be gained with years of never giving up on being her best and truest self was something she passed on to her children — a beautiful legacy that will continue for generations.
Gwen had a great sense of humor which she held onto until the end. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and would rather receive scratch tickets than a birthday card.
She was loved by so many and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to get to know her.
A service to honor the life of Gwendolyn Mavis Snodgrass (Johnston) will be held on Jan. 21, 2023, graveside at the new Bay Center Cemetery on Cemetery Road at 1 p.m.
