Arlene Joanne (Eaton) Hoiland, 86, an Aberdeen resident, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at her home in Central Park.
Arlene was born on Aug. 5, 1934, in Portland, Oregon, to Marion C. and Ethel (Bradley) Eaton. From a young age, Arlene loved to dance and was able to share that joy with many others here on the Harbor and beyond. She graduated in Portland from Washington High School in 1952.
On Jan. 26, 1967, Arlene married Roger W. Hoiland at her parents’ home located in Central Park.
Arlene was a professional dance instructor at several Arthur Murray Dance Centers and Fred Astaire Dance Studios, and taught in many different venues wherever she lived. In San Diego, she had a weekly televised demonstration and dance class.
Arlene is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roger W. Hoiland of Aberdeen; a son, Michael Scott (Sharon) Hughes of San Diego, California; a granddaughter, Stephanie Hughes; step-daughters: Resa Hoiland of Olympia, Washington and Kathy Hoiland of Rochester, Washington; step-grandchildren: Matthew Balder, Lindsey Balder, Jennifer Benton and Jessica (David) Rose; and step-great-grandchildren: Kalia Benton and Kiera Benton.
There will be a private family inurnment service at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen, Washington, on April 16, 2021. A celebration of life/memorial dance will be announced at a later date.
