A Raymond man was killed in a two-car head-on crash on State Route 6 east of Raymond Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Shawn D. Clearwater, 49, was driving a 1995 Mercury Cougar westbound shortly after 2 a.m. when a 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup heading eastbound “crossed the center line, striking the car” head-on, according State Trooper Chelsea Hodgson. Clearwater was killed, the driver of the truck, a 38-year-old Chehalis man, “sustained a minor injury and is in custody,” said Hodgson Sunday. “The collision is being investigated as vehicular homicide.”
Both vehicles came to a rest on the westbound shoulder after the collision, according to the report. The roadway was fully blocked for more than four hours and partially blocked for more than five hours for the investigation, which is ongoing. The State Patrol report indicates drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash but no formal word on charges has been released.
