ONALASKA — Zoe Hutchings scored 23 points as Montesano remained unbeaten by routing Onalaska in a non-league game Saturday.

The Bulldogs (3-0) scored the game’s opening 13 points and forced 30 Logger turnovers.

“We tried to switch up our defenses and keep them off-balance,” Monte coach Julie Graves. “We started the game with a lot of energy and finished with a lot of energy. It was nice to play a complete 32-minute game.”

Samantha Stanfield had 14 points and seven rebounds, Zoee Lisherness had 13 points and 11 boards and Lexi Lovell swiped six steals for the Bulldogs. Montesano dished out 22 assists as a team, with Glory Grubb distributing six and Hannah Hatcher five.

The Bulldogs host Rochester on Wednesday.

SHELTON — A 25-point first quarter ignited Class 3A Shelton past Hoquiam in a non-league game Saturday.

Kylee Bagwell paced the Grizzlies (0-3) with 10 points. Maya Jump and Kylee Vonhof added eight points each for Hoquiam.

The Grizzlies host Cascade Christian today.

PE ELL — Preserving a fourth-quarter lead with an all-reserve lineup, Raymond opened its season with a non-league victory over Pe Ell on Saturday.

All five Raymond starters were on the bench for a portion of the fourth quarter — one with an injury, two with cramps and two with four fouls. The Gulls nonetheless played the Trojans even to maintain a 10-point advantage.

“They did really well,” Raymond coach Mike Tully said of the reserves. “I was really happy with the way the second unit played and it showed that we have some depth.”

Devine Souvannavanh topped the Gulls with 15 points. Marcus Anderson chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Kolin Koski came off the bench to contribute 10 points and strong defense, while Kaci Phansisay came up with five steals.

The Gulls (1-0) host Elma on Tuesday.

SUQUAMISH – A big second quarter helped lift Taholah past Chief Kitsap in a season-opening game Friday night.

Taholah got off to a slow start and found itself down after the first quarter but put up 25 points in the second quarter and never looked back.

The Chitwhins used defense to power their offense and got five steals apiece from Jesse Purdy and James Orozco.

Taholah head coach Mike Rose said he was pleased with the way his team rebounded after only putting up nine points in the first quarter.

“We started out slow but we pressed and held them pretty well,” he said.

Taholah played Chief Leschi on Monday.

GHC men sweep

The Grays Harbor College men swept Umpqua Community College, 34-24, and Pacific Lutheran University, 48-13, last weekend.

Grays Harbor Josh Pine needed only eight seconds to pin his PLU opponent at 165 pounds. Christian Hill (125), Kalvyn Scott (174) and Jack Moen (197) also notched pins against the short-handed Lutes.

Montesano’s Taylor Rupe, a two-time state champion, won his first college match for Pacific Lutheran, decisioning Garrett Ault at 285.

Pine, Chris Joner, Braiden Klimp and Jack Dahlgren recorded pins for Grays Harbor in Friday’s win at Umpqua. Choker 141-pounder Damon Thomas was also cited for a fine performance.

Grays Harbor College’s women fell to top-ranked Simon Fraser, 31-15. Nina Pham and Paige Baynes scored victories for GHC.
