Hyaks end game with a rush in rout of Forks JV

FORKS — Tavo Muro and Michael Almenderez ran for two touchdowns apiece as North Beach’s varsity trounced the Forks junior varsity, 47-16, in a non-league football game Saturday at Forks.

Down 8-0 after one quarter and up by only four (20-16) early in the second half, the Hyaks (2-2) ended the game by scoring 27 unanswered points.

“Once we got our wheels turning, we did all right,” Hyak coach Travis Cluckey said.

Muro scored on runs of 25 and 30 yards in the first half. Almenderez, a converted lineman, added TD runs of 17 and 15 yards in the third quarter to help break open the game.

“Our fullback went down (with an injury),” Cluckey explained. “Mike stepped up and filled the position and did a great job.”

Hyak quarterback Brenden Chaney ran for one touchdown (from 20 yards out) and hit Keenan Miller on a 40-yard scoring pass. Patrick Day-Heyd had North Beach’s other touchdown on a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Cluckey cited the defensive play of Muro, Chaney, Nolan Charley and Matt Smith.

The Hyaks open league play Friday at home against Raymond.
