Bobcats sweep Warriors

It was the seniors paving the way to an Aberdeen victory on Senior Night. The Bobcats seven seniors, Haley Farrer, Jillian Swor, Adrianna Roberts, Haley Raines, Pilar Garcia, Sydni Blood and Kathleen Slyter, played all of the first and third sets of a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23) win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference match at Sam Been Gym on Thursday.

Farrer had 10 kills for Aberdeen, while Swor added 18 digs and eight kills. Raines finished with 17 assists and Roberts was 10-for-10 serving with three aces.

“There was just lots of good energy,” Aberdeen coach Doug Basler said. “The girls really stepped it up. To come out and win in three and let the seniors play a lot tonight was a great way to end the season. All night our serves were awesome. We kept the pressure on Rochester.”

Aberdeen won the JV match, while Rochester came out on top in the C-squad contest.

The win ends the Bobcats season with a record of 2-8 in league and 2-12 overall.

KALAMA — Kalama scored in the first minute to take control of this Central 2B League match and never let up on its way to victory over Ocosta.

Ocosta started the match without two of its regular starting 11 and Kalama took advantage just 12 seconds into the match. The Chinooks raced the ball up the right side and put a cross into the box. A Kalama player got a foot on the ball and sent it home for what would be the game-winner.

“It was just kind of all messed up,” Ocosta coach Mike King said of the first goal. “We were just a bit off. It was a long bus trip and I just don’t think we had our focus.”

Kalama added goals in the 16th, 38th and 54th minutes as Ocosta struggled to get any momentum.

King cited Rebecca Holm for a strong performance at center midfielder.

Ocosta (7-7, 9-7) will begin District IV 2B tournament play on Tuesday when the Wildcats face Adna at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium in Centralia.
