Eagles 26, Beavers 13
TENINO — Avery Brown threw three touchdown passes, two in the second half, as Elma rallied past Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League contest Friday night at Tenino.
Down 13-6 at the half, the Eagles (1-1, 2-5) erupted for 20 unanswered points in the final two quarters.
Brown’s 64-yard touchdown pass to Ira Hartford and Alejandro Hernandez’s conversion kick at the 7:59 mark of the third quarter tied it at 13.
The Eagles then moved in front to stay on Brown’s 6-yard TD throw to Liam Baxter with 1:49 remaining in the third period.
Elma added an insurance touchdown, on Hartford’s 3-yard run, early in the fourth quarter.
Brown also hooked up with Hartford on a 30-yard scoring pass with the game less than two minutes old. Tenino quarterback Miles Cannon ran for one touchdown and passed for another to give the Beavers the halftime lead.
Calling this performance his team’s finest of the season, Elma coach Ron Clark gave most of the credit to the defense.
“We did things defensively that we haven’t done all year,” Clark said. “I think we had three goal-line stands, we defended an onside kick, just a lot of good things. We hung in there and played pretty close to a flawless second half, didn’t make a lot of mistakes.”
A.J. Brown and Brandon Tyler were each credited with 8 1/2 tackles, with Brown’s output including three stops for losses.
Particularly effective on play-action passes, Avery Brown threw for 127 yards. Hartford rushed for 96 yards and had three receptions for 109 yards.
The Eagles host Forks on Friday in a contest critical to their playoff hopes.
T-Birds 70, Bobcats 14
TUMWATER — Bolting to a 49-14 halftime lead, second-ranked Tumwater trounced Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference game Friday night at Tumwater Stadium.
The T-Birds led 28-7 after one quarter.
Filling in at quarterback while Ben Dublanko underwent concussion protocol, Kylan Touch rushed for 141 yards and scored both Aberdeen touchdowns.
He broke a 66-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and returned an interception 40 yards to the end zone in the second period. David Housden kicked both conversions.
Aberdeen coach Kevin Ridout said his team matched up better physically with the perennially powerful T-Birds than the score indicated.
“Obviously, they’re a quality team, they put 22 great players on the field. I thought our teams played extremely well and hard,” Ridout said. “They’re kind of a machine and when physically you can go toe to toe with them, it gives you some encouragement (for the future).”
Aberdeen senior Braden Castleberry-Taylor was cited for an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball and in punting.
Ridout also cited the play of Alex Reyes, Bailey Delahanty and Derrell Shale.
The Bobcats (0-3, 2-5) travel to Rochester on Friday.
Games postponed
Four Twin Harbors Class 2B and 1B games scheduled for Friday were postponed due to inclement weather.
The North Beach at South Bend and Ilwaco at Pe Ell-Willapa Valley contests have been rescheduled for Monday. The Raymond at Ocosta game is scheduled to be made up on Tuesday.
No makeup date has been announced as yet for the Naselle at Taholah game, also postponed from Friday.
The South Bend at Raymond game, originally scheduled for Oct. 21, has been pushed back to Saturday, Oct. 22. The kickoff will remain at 7 p.m.

Bobcats advance
OLYMPIA — Aberdeen advanced three singles players and two doubles teams to the second day of the Evergreen 2A Conference/Subdistrict 2A Tournament on Friday at the Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club.
Ryan Solan was the lone unbeaten Bobcat in Friday’s play. He advanced to the singles semifinals by downing Tumwater’s John Drohman, 6-1, 6-1, and Chehalis’ Andrew Painter, 6-4, 6-2. Solan will face top-seeded Gunnar Nelson of Black Hills in today’s semis.
Two other Bobcats remained alive in the losers bracket of singles. Luis Garcia rebounded from a 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 loss to Tumwater’s Cade Williams by trouncing Chehalis’ Andrew Pak, 6-3, 6-0, in a loser-out contest.
After opening with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Centralia’s Vance Voetberg, Aberdeen’s Harlan Troy fell to Andrew Painter, 6-2, 6-1, but stayed alive with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Tumwater’s Drohman.
Not only did two Bobcat doubles teams advance, but the third was eliminated by one of the Aberdeen duos.
Aberdeen’s Josh Germeaux and Cody Sayres opened with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory, but lost their second-round match, 6-1, 6-3. They will face teammates Patric Haerle and Aaron Larsen in a loser-out match today.
Haerle and Larsen topped Chehalis’ Alex Ibanez and Andrew Gregory, 6-2, 6-1, lost to Tumwater’s Ryan Warren and Nick Stottlemeyer, 6-0, 6-4, but eliminated Aberdeen’s Bryan Sidor and Aaron Dyer, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Sidor and Dyer went 1-2 on the day, beating Black Hills’ Sam Whipple and Hunter Grabski, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, but losing to Centralia’s Ben Corwin and Ryan Mack, 6-2, 6-1.
“We are excited to take two doubles teams and three singles players to the second day,” AHS coach Andy Duffy said.
The top five in singles and doubles advance to district next week at Longview.
