Marjorie (Villarrubia ) Pool, was called to the Lord on Monday, June 27,2022, just four days before her 97th birthday. She died peacefully in her sleep, after having days with her family and friends surrounding her. Marge was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. But mostly, she was a woman of God.

Marge was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 1,1925. She was the second child of seven children born to Celuta and Roger Villarrubia. Margie was a cradle Catholic and attended Catholic schools all through high school. After high school she attended business school, where she trained to be a secretary. Her work career ended after about 6 years when she was ready to give birth to her first of her eight children.

In the summer of 1945, Margie met the love of her life on a blind date arranged by her cousin. Stephen D. Pool won her heart almost immediately. He was a gift from God, who she loved dearly for over 60 years. They married Nov. 8, 1947, and welcomed daughter Kathleen Ann in October 1948. Kathy was followed by five more little girls: Diane Montague (Chuck), Joan Miller (Mark), Lisa Schramm (Chris), Ellen Wilcox (Ron), and Janet Baxter (Rick). Finally, Marge and Steve were blessed with two sons: Greg Pool (Christine), and Michael Pool (Pamela). Marge and Steve were the proud grandparents of 18 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Steve and Margie left their home in Louisiana in 1957 with five little girls. Steve’s job had him spending more time in Washington state then in Louisiana. They settled in Aberdeen, Washington, where they lived for 51 years. Besides having three little “Yankee” babies in Aberdeen, Margie also did the books for Steve’s business, Steve Pool’s Service. She had a very busy life.

When Steve retired in 1984, they started traveling. They hit the road in a motorhome and visited all but one state. They both enjoyed meeting new people, seeing new sights and visiting new churches.

In 1998, Marge and Steve fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting the Holy Land on a Pilgrimage. It was a joyful time for both and one that further enhanced their spiritual life together.

Margie lost her beloved Steve on Dec. 21, 2007. Approximately two years after Steve’s death, Marge moved to Olympia, where daughter Ellen added an apartment for her onto her family home. Marge quickly discovered St. Michael Parish in Olympia. She became very involved in her new parish life and found new purpose there. St. Michael Parish had become her Holy Family.

In 2013, encouraged by Pastor Jim Lee, Margie was able to be a part of her second Pilgrimage, this one to Lourdes and Fatima. Her daughter Joan accompanied her, and 88-year-old Marge had another life-changing experience.

Marge loved her husband, the family they created, her wonderful siblings that she never lost contact with, and her faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Steve, her oldest daughter Kathy, her brothers Jim and Donald and her sister Helen.

Relatives and friends are invited to Marge’s funeral Mass at St. Michael Parish in Olympia on July 13, 2022 at 12 noon. There will also be a Rosary and viewing in the church at 11:15 a.m., prior to the funeral Mass. For those unable to attend in person, the Mass will be live streamed and can be viewed on YouTube.com under St Michael Parish Olympia WA.
