A 62-year-old man was rescued by emergency personnel Thursday afternoon after he got his climbing gear tangled and became trapped 30 feet up a tree, according to a statement from Michael Pauley, assistant chief of the Wishkah Fire Department.
The call came in shortly before 4:30 p.m. When Fire District 10 personnel arrived on the scene in the 3200 block of Wishkah Road, they discovered the man about 30 feet up the tree, trapped by his gear.
“The man was attempting to hang a cable in the tree to assist in the removal of the hazard to his home, but his climbing equipment ended up tangled in the process, which rendered him unable to descend on his own,” said Pauley.
Fire District 10 personnel were unable to remove the man because of his position in the tree, so they called for assistance and a ladder truck from the Aberdeen Fire Department. Aberdeen personnel were able to reach the man and lower him safely to the ground, said Pauley.
EMS personnel checked the man over for injuries and found none, though the man was fatigued from being up there for about 45 minutes.
In total there where two Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s deputies, four responders from Aberdeen Fire Department and six responders from Fire District 10, said Pauley.
