Disorderly man faced down by karate students

Aberdeen Police responded to a report of a man attempting to throw a fire extinguisher through the front window of Morningstar Karate on West Market Street late Monday evening. Witnesses said the suspect threw the extinguisher against the window, and when students went to investigate the suspect approached a 24-year old Hoquiam student and punched him in the face. The student returned two or three “quick, well placed punches” and the suspect went to the ground, according to Aberdeen Police Lieutenant C.J. Chastain. Students detained the 28-year old Aberdeen man until police arrived. At the jail, where the suspect was booked for disorderly conduct, he declined medical attention for cuts to his face and nose and told officers he was having “mental issues” and was hearing voices. A mental health professional was summoned to the jail for assistance.
