Malicious mischief, burglary on the rise in Aberdeen
The Aberdeen Police Department has made several arrests based on reports of malicious mischief and burglary this month. According to Aberdeen Police Lt. CJ Chastain, a patrol sergeant, preparing to conduct some proactive work with the Street Crimes Team, began working with detectives when it appeared to him there were connections on the suspects of the various crimes.
Early Wednesday afternoon, a sergeant and two patrol officers working proactive street crimes went to a South Aberdeen residence with a uniformed officer and members of the Department of Corrections looking for one of the suspects. While at the residence, one of the Corrections officers saw suspected stolen items from known burglaries in open view from a window.
An 18-year old suspect was contacted at the house and initially provided a false name. The patrol sergeant recognized him on sight, and he was taken into custody on probable cause related to one of the active investigations. Officers subsequently recovered suspected stolen property.
Based on information from the ongoing investigation, on Thursday a patrol sergeant and two officers responded to a South Aberdeen home. A 17-year old Aberdeen youth was taken into custody on probable cause related to the investigations.
Both suspects have been interviewed, said Chastain. The investigations continue and felony charges will be forwarded for review by the Grays Harbor County Prosecutor’s Office. Additional misdemeanor charges could be filed through the Aberdeen City Attorney’s Office.
