Donald John (DJ) Spoon passed away on Sept. 6, 2017, at his home in Olympia due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Donald John (DJ) Spoon passed away on Sept. 6, 2017, at his home in Olympia due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Don was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Aberdeen, Wash. He worked in the family business, Spoon Automotive in Aberdeen and Olympia, from the age of 12 until he retired. He also served in the Army National Guard for 25 years. He was an active volunteer in the community all his life, especially coaching baseball and with adult literacy. He loved reading and baseball, especially the Yankees. His grandchildren called him Grandpa Baseball.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Marcia, sons Don and Steve (Carla), daughter Jackie (Todd) Wilson, stepsons Danny, Shawn (Joann), and Jim (Antje), 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by sister Patsy Wellington, brother Ted, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sons Mick and John Paul, stepson David, and brother Larry.

At Don’s request, no formal service will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, Don suggested that donations be made to Animal Services of Olympia and Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice.
