Fungi for all at Mushroom Festival at Lake Quinault

The 15th annual Mushroom Festival will be held at the Lake Quinault Lodge this weekend.

The lodge hosts the event from Friday through Sunday. The Lake Quinault Museum is a co-sponsor, offering “fungi bingo” on Saturday night.

The festival includes expert guest speakers, guided walks, identification workshops and much more.

Plenty of prep work goes into the colorful displays, according to event co-founder Phyllis Miller.

“On Thursday night, the mushrooms come pouring in — in all forms of maturity, occasionally down to almost the point of being unidentifiable,” she said. “This is when we arrange the displays, identify (the specimens) and prepare for the festival. I’m usually doing this until midnight or later.”

Saturday-only tickets are $80, with three-day passes also available for $155. Breakfast and dinner events in the lodge’s Roosevelt Dining Room are extra.
