CORRECTION: Information has been changed to reflect that Montesano’s Samantha Stanfield was named the league’s Defensive MVP and Hoquiam’s Maddie German was named Offensive MVP.

Montesano’s Evan Bates, Samantha Stanfield and Hoquiam’s Maddie German picked up MVP honors as the 1A Evergreen League announced its 2018 all-league baseball and softball teams earlier this week.

Bates, the Bulldogs’ second baseman and pitcher, was named the league’s baseball MVP after a season where he helped the Bulldogs to a 20-3 overall record and an appearance in the state championship tournament.

Stanfield was named the 1A Evergreen Defensive MVP the second year in a row. The Central Washington-bound senior went 13-3 in the circle with 192 strikeouts in 121 innings pitched.

German became a threat in the middle of the Grizzlies lineup as exemplified by a 3-for-5 performance against Ocosta where she hit two home runs and had four RBI. She was rewarded with the league’s Offensive MVP award for the 2018 season.

Montesano swept the Coach of the Year awards after both the Bulldogs baseball and softball teams earned league titles. Monte head coach Mike Osgood was named the baseball Coach of the Year while softball head coach Pat Pace and his assistants received the award of Coaching Staff of the Year.
