Led by a history-setting performance from senior Wil Boling, Aberdeen won the team championship at the 2023 Ray Ryan Memorial Grays Harbor All-County Track & Field Meet on Friday at Jack Rottle Field in Montesano.

Boling ran a blistering 2:00.64 to win the 800 meter race, breaking the 28-year meet record set by Hoquiam’s Tyson Estes in 1995.

“I kind of had my eyes on that because I heard the record was close and I had ran faster than that this season,” Boling said of his historic achievement, one which he believes he won’t hold for long. “Just thinking about this kind of mini-dynasty we’ve had at Aberdeen the past few years and we have more upcoming 800 meter runners, so I’d say I’m happy about it, but I don’t think it’s going to last long. I think next year there will be a new record-holder, but I’m happy to get it.”

Aberdeen swept the sprint races with Luke Niemi winning the 100 and 200 and Henry Nelson taking the top spot in the 400.
