First Round

No. 10 Toledo 1, No. 7 Ocosta 0

Another stellar postseason outing by all-state pitcher Jessie Gilbert was spoiled as Ocosta lost 1-0 to Toledo in the first round of the 2B State Tournament on Friday.

Gilbert threw a no-hitter through 8 1-3 innings and dominated the Riverhawks with 19 strikeouts.

But Ocosta (18-8 overall) failed to scratch a run across against Toledo freshman pitcher Peyton Holter, who held the Wildcats scoreless on four hits.

With runners being placed at second in extra innings, the Riverhawks’ Quyn Norberg stole third with two outs then came into score on a passed ball to end the Wildcats’ season.

Noel Cuzdey had two hits to lead the Wildcats as Toledo took the bat out of Gilbert’s hands with three intentional walks.
