LaDonna “Camille” Makolo passed away at Lacey Memory Care Facility on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023 at the age of 84.

LaDonna “Camille” Makolo passed away at Lacey Memory Care Facility on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023 at the age of 84. She was born July 3, 1938, to Maurice and LaDonna Fox in Aberdeen, Washington. Camille graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1956. She went on to earn her Associate Degree in Arts from the Grays Harbor Community College in 1958.

In the early 1970s Camille followed her lifelong passion for art by opening “Camille’s Art Center” in downtown Aberdeen. At the art center she hosted an arts and crafts segment through the local television station. Camille later sought out employment on an Alaskan fishing boat. Upon her return she met her future husband, William K. Makolo.

William and Camille were married on May 24, 1975. They later had a son who was named after his father and Camille’s step-great grandfather, Harry H. Wilt.

In the late 1980s Camille was commissioned to paint a mural at the Cosmopolis Elementary School where she later became the art teacher until the program was disbanded in the mid-’90s. In her later years, Camille volunteered her time at the Aberdeen Senior Center where she continued to teach art.

Camille is survived by her son William-Harry Manaohana Makolo of Camp Pendleton, California; brother Maurice L. Fox III of Aberdeen; and granddaughter Emily-Elizabeth Ilima Makolo of Covington, Washington.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Kaanohilani Makolo; her parents, Maurice Leolin Fox Jr. and LaDonna Camille (Richards) Fox, and brother Kenneth Hastin Fox.

Camille was laid to rest on Feb. 10, 2023, at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Cosmopolis, Washington.
