Steven Mitchell Cooper, 67, an Ocean Shores resident and former automotive technician, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his home in Ocean Shores, Washington.
Steven was born on April 30, 1956, in Eureka, California to Richard and Darlene (Lee) Cooper. He attended California schools, and after graduation at the age of 17, Steven joined the United States Army. After his discharge, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He later met Linda Rogers, and they married on May 2, 1981, in Phoenix. Steven opened his own automotive shop, Cooper Automotive Repair in 1981, where he would operate over the next 8 years. Steven and Linda had 2 children: son, John; and daughter, Sarah. In 1989, the family moved to Everett, Washington and in 1996 to Granite Falls, Washington. He continued to raise his family, and work as an automotive tech before opening his own shop out of Seattle, Washington, Lake City Transmission for several years. Steven retired in 2010 and moved to Ocean Shores, Washington in 2019.
Steven was a member of both the Granite Falls and Ocean Shores Eagles. He enjoyed building kayaks and kayaking the lakes and rivers of Washington State. He also played the keyboard, playing in a band known as “The Garage Band.”
Steven is survived by his son, John (Michel) Cooper, of Custer, Washington; daughter, Sarah Romine, of Marysville, Washington; his mother, Darlene Lee (Les), of Benton City, Washington; step-mother, Joyce Cooper, of Chico, California; brothers: Gary Cooper, of Grand Junction, Colorado; John Cooper, of Oroville, California; and step-brother, David Swarts, of Chico, California; step-sisters: Judy Barclay, of Chico, California; and Nancy Cooper, of Oroville, California; several half siblings and grandchild, Natalie Nix, of Bellingham, Washington.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. located in the chapel of Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
