Jean A. Walden, 93 years of age and a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 20, 2017, at Grays Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen.

Jean A. Walden, 93 years of age and a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 20, 2017, at Grays Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen. Mrs. Walden was born on July 28, 1924, in Hoquiam, Wash., to Glen J. and Lillian C. (McCloskey) Matheson.

She was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1942. She then attended business college for a year.

On Jan. 18, 1948, she and Theodore Walden were married in Hoquiam.

They enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Harbor Haylofters and the YMCA for many years. Jean also enjoyed flower gardening, doing crossword puzzles, visiting the casino, traveling, watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy,” and collecting white kitties. She was an avid sports fan, loved the Mariners and the Seahawks, but most of all watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete. In her younger years the family would camp regularly.

Surviving family members include a daughter, Penny Sudderth of Hoquiam; sons, Randy Walden of Shelton, Togy Walden of Cosmopolis and Tim Walden of Hoquiam; seven grandchildren, Rick Sudderth, Tami Engstrom, Coni Severance, Andrew Walden-Montoya, Kelly Hambleton, Allyson Sebcioglu and Wendy Chatham; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Theodore, she was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Holley.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
