Nominees

Police Officer of the Year

Police officers from Westport and Aberdeen were also nominated for The Daily World’s Police Officer of the Year honor.

Westport Police Chief Tracy Rosenow was nominated for his dedication to duty and his genuine interest in people. His approach is hands-on, and he is often seen out in the field with his officers at all times of the day and night, leading by example rather than issuing directives from behind his desk, said the person who nominated him. He has brought attention and more volunteers to Crime Watch, Neighborhood Watch and the 12-week Citizen’s Academy.

Sgt. Darrin King was hired by the Aberdeen Police Department in 2000. He was nominated for his willingness to help any citizen with any number of issues, from fixing a flat tire to providing assistance on family matters. He’s described as a proactive shift commander, preferring to lead by example rather than behind the scenes. He has been nominated for and won several local and regional awards, and is very active outside of work in area youth sports programs and the Cosmopolis School.
