Man arrested for DUI after rollover crash in Hoquiam

Accident near the Simpson Avenue Bridge

A 20-year-old Aberdeen man crashed his car into the jersey barrier at the base of the Simipson Avenue Bridge on Saturday night, causing the car to roll over on its side, according to the Hoquiam Police Department. The man was later arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

At 11:18 p.m., Hoquiam officers were dispatched to reports of a rollover collision at the base of the Simpson Avenue Bridge, on the western side near the Hoquiam Police Department, the police press release says. A 2014 Kia Optima had struck the jersey barrier at the bridge approach and then rolled on its side in the 1000 Block of Simpson Avenue.

Upon the officers’ arrival, witnesses pointed out the driver, who was allegedly attempting to flee the area on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the driver, who showed indications of being under the influence of alcohol. Paramedics determined the man was not injured, and he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
