Calls to public safety agencies

Put those candles out

An unattended candle caused a structure fire that resulted in an estimated $25,000 to an apartment building on the 900 block of Lafayette Street in North Aberdeen, according to the Aberdeen Fire Department.

It took about a dozen firefighters from Aberdeen and Hoquiam close to 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze that occurred on the second story of the complex.

The Aberdeen Fire Department suggests people using candles to never leave them unattended. Instead, place them in sturdy holders made of metal, glass or ceramic on surfaces where they won’t tip over, and remember to keep lit candles out of reach of children and pets.
