Girls Prep Wrestling Roundup: Aberdeen second, four locals win titles at girls wrestling sub-regional

Aberdeen’s Bell and Munoz, Montesano’s Roundtree and Raymond’s Siribun win individual champonships

The Twin Harbors area was well represented with four local wrestlers claiming individual championships at the WIAA District 4 Girls North 1B/2B/1A/2A Sub-Regional meet on Saturday at Hoquiam High School.

Leading the way for Harbor schools was Aberdeen, which had two individual champions on Saturday.

Bobcats senior Felicia Bell, who has dominated the 125-pound class this season, defeated W.F. West’s Shelby Hazlett with a 15-0 technical-fall victory to claim the sub-regional title.

Aberdeen’s Peityn Munoz took home the title at 140 pounds with a pinfall win over Shelton’s Crystall Nielsen at 3:20 of their championship match.

Montesano’s Kya Roundtree, one of the favorites to compete for a state title at 170 pounds, earned a pinfall win over Aberdeen’s Mycah Good to claim a sub-regional title for the Bulldogs.

In the 235-pound weight class, Raymond’s Nina Siribun earned a disqualification victory over Aberdeen’s Carolynn Arthur.

Aberdeen placed second overall in the team standings with 224 points.

W.F. West won the team championship with 273 points.

Shelton (196, 3rd), Centralia (139.5, 4th) and Black Hills (139) rounded out the top five teams.

In its first season as a full team, Montesano placed in the top 10, taking seventh with 98.5 points.

Twenty-five Twin Harbors wrestlers qualified for the WIAA Girls 1B/2B/1A/2A Region 2 meet scheduled for Saturday at Centralia High School, with some wrestlers having to compete in a pigtail play-in match the morning of the event.
