Wilma Betty Williams, 85, a long-time resident of Grays Harbor, died at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017.

Wilma Betty Williams, 85, a longtime resident of Grays Harbor, died at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017. Betty was born in Aberdeen, Dec. 15, 1931, the daughter of Earl and Ellen (Hathaway) Flowers. The family lived in the John’s River area and she graduated from Ocosta High School. Betty served in the U.S. Air Force.

She married Gilbert Flinn and they would later divorce. She would marry George Williams in 1967 in Aberdeen. George died in Olympia in 1992 and Betty spent five years traveling internationally. Betty worked nights at Ocean Spray for many years and during the day was an independent contractor for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. She would work well into her 70’s before retiring.

She was a member of the American Legion, Post 224, Aberdeen; belonged to bowling leagues, collected knick-knacks, antique furniture and pictures, loved her grandchildren and served as “grandma’s taxi”. She was also a Mariner Baseball season ticket holder.

Betty is survived by a daughter: Eilene Flinn, Cosmopolis; two sons: George Williams, Aberdeen and Earl Williams, Hoquiam; a sister: Jeanie and husband Bill Waulkama, Aberdeen; and also nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Gilbert Flinn III, preceded her in death in 2009; a sister, Peggy Smith and a brother, Jack Flowers.

At her request there will be no formal memorial services.
