Stephen John Eide (Steve), 60, a resident of Olympia, Wash., passed away on Oct. 15, 2017, at his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1957, in Harlingen, Texas to Jack and Kitty (Wiggins) Eide.

He was raised in Bellevue and Hoquiam, Wash. and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1975. He went on to Bates Technical College to learn the Sheet Metal trade.

On Sept. 24, 1983, Steve married Fran Walczyk in Aberdeen, Wash. Together they raised three children, Jeff, Kyndra and Megan.

Steve was initiated in to the Sheet Metal union on June 1, 1984, working at Pryde Bros., in Hoquiam. He was proud member of SMWIA Local 66. He loved his trade, fabricating a wide variety of things out of sheet metal; velvet lined heart shaped boxes, stainless consoles, tanks used in beer making, bait boxes, drift boats, vats used to dip airplane wings in and about anything else you could dream up. He worked at shops all around the northwest. When working at Bangor, he earned the nickname “Stevie Wonder” for his welding prowess.

He loved to tinker with sheet metal in his home shop, often repurposing things as gifts for friends and family. He enjoyed being outdoors; walking the dogs, exploring the woods, fishing Lake Quinault, local rivers, ocean fishing in Illwaco and Westport, and shrimping with family on Hood Canal. He loved fishing with his family out of Seward, Alaska. He was a “s’more master” perfecting his skills over the many years spent at the family cabin on Lake Quinault. He also recently took up paddle boarding. He was a loyal Seahawks, Mariners and Huskies fan.

He had a love for cars, muscle cars in particular. If it was sunny out, he’d take his Camaro Z-28 for a drive – the curvier the road the better!

Steve is survived by his wife Fran; son, Jeff (Carla); daughters Kyndra and Megan; three grandchildren, Giovanni, Nixin and Jack; mother Mary Katherine (Kitty) Eide; brothers Chris (Mona) and Eric (Tara); mother-in-law Thelma Walczyk; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John Carl (Jack); sister Lisa Dupont; and his father in law Frank Walczyk.

Steve was a man of few words – his actions said it all.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at 12:00 noon at the Rotary Log Pavilion in Aberdeen, Wash. Anyone who knew him is welcome to join us in remembering him.
