Lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Ronald Edward Espedal Sr., died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at the age of 80.

Lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Ronald Edward Espedal Sr., died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at the age of 80. He was born April 25, 1938, in Aberdeen, the son of Tor and Alice (Hoder) Espedal.

Ron graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1956 and attended Grays Harbor College before transferring to the University of Washington. He graduated from the UW in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

After joining the Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill at Cosmopolis, he would marry Anne Kilcup in Aberdeen on May 21, 1966. Ron retired as the Superintendent of the Machine Room at the Mill after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Aberdeen, Tumwater Racquet Club, Grays Harbor Country Club and the Highland Golf Club. In 1950 he was the Seattle PI’s Pacific Northwest Hoop Shoot Champion.

Ron loved tennis, golf, yard work, steelhead fishing and watching the grandsons in sports.

Besides his wife of 52 years, Anne, Ron is survived by two sons: Ronald Jr. (Lisa), Hoquiam and James, Olympia; and two grandsons: Ronald III and Ryan Espedal.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Harbor City Church. A reception to follow.
