Norman “Stormin’ Norman” Leroy Heath, 64 years of age, died on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington.

Norman “Stormin’ Norman” Leroy Heath, 64 years of age, died on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington. He was born on Dec. 8, 1954, to Ellen Marie Hyasman George and Percy Elmer Heath Sr.

He was raised in Grays Harbor County where he attended school in Hoquiam, Montesano, and graduated from Aberdeen High School. He was hardworking, kind, loving, and family orientated. He was raised in foster homes and loved his family; biological and foster. Foster homes he grew up in were the Brown, Mallow, Siedel, Brasch, Rich, and Luscier families.

Norman began his adult life caring for others at an early age when he enlisted with the U.S. Army at the age of 19 and served as a Medic. He eventually went on to new careers yet never quit putting others before himself. While in the military he was stationed at Fort Sam, Fort Lewis, Fort Dix, Fort Bragg and Mannheim, Germany. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1981 he returned to the Harbor, joined the Army National Guard in 1982 and continued his military service until 1996 while working for the U.S. Department of Interior within the Indian Affairs’ Northwest Region. He also worked part-time for the Quinault Beach Resort & Casino as a Security Guard and was a Tribal Treaty fisherman. Notable awards Norman received were the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Medal for the Expedition Korea as well as the Washington Accommodation Medal. Norman dedicated 21 years, 9 months, and 12 days to military service and is a lifetime member of the VFW in Aberdeen.

Norman’s hobbies included playing baseball, basketball, traveling to tribal casinos, going to Tribal Veteran Powwow’s with fellow Veteran’s, and loved to attend professional sporting events.

He is survived by one brother, Corbett E. Heath of Taholah, numerous nieces, nephews and extended foster family relatives.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2019, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel, in Hoquiam, burial services at 1:30 p.m. at the Quinault Indian Nation Cemetery in Taholah with a dinner to follow.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
