Mervin Leon Beyer unexpectedly passed away at his home in Cosmopolis, Washington, on Dec. 18, 2018. Born in in Beatrice, Nebraska, on May 19, 1930, to Grace (Long) and Arthur Beyer, he and his family moved west in 1936. They eventually settled in Bremerton, Washington, where Merv graduated from high school in 1948.

After graduation he took a job selling insurance in Aberdeen, Washington, where he met his longtime love and future wife, Patricia Dokke. They married on Aug. 14, 1953, and moved briefly to California for Merv to attend college. In 1956, Merv and Pat decided to return to Hoquiam where they remained for the rest of their lives together. Merv spent his career at Lamb Grays Harbor — a job he loved for more than 40 years — where he worked as a draftsman, sales engineer and head of the publication department.

Merv’s time in Hoquiam also brought him three children whom he adored and a rich church community at Immanuel Baptist Church where he was active in many roles. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren, and he lovingly cared for Pat during her long illness before she passed away in 2008. In 2012, he remarried to an old friend, Rose Martin, and moved to Cosmopolis.

He is survived by Rose; his brother, Art Beyer of Garibaldi, Oregon; his children: Janet (J) Rosenbach of Montesano, Julie (Mark) Woolsey of Astoria, Oregon, and son Timothy (Audrey) of Seattle; grandchildren Melinda (Danny) Bortis, Megan (Matt) Wilson, Emily Woolsey, Bethany Woolsey, Andrew Beyer, one great-granddaughter, Sara Bortis, and many nieces and nephews. His parents and siblings Bernie, Bea and Cora preceded him in death.

A memorial service for Merv will be held on Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule Avenue, in Hoquiam, Washington with a reception to follow. Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th in Hoquiam. Please take a few moments to sign the online guest register at www.colemanmortuary.net.
