Barbara Chee Capoeman

Barbara Chee Capoeman, 93 years of age and a resident of Ocean Shores for the past year, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Barbara Chee Capoeman, 93 years of age and a resident of Ocean Shores for the past year, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born on Jan. 27, 1925, in Taholah, Wash. to Herbert Capoeman Sr. and Lizzie Moses.

Barbara attended grade school in Taholah and high school in Chemawa, Ore. Following high school, she was employed at Grays Harbor Veneer and the Chair Factory. She had also worked for the Restaurant in the Taholah Store, the cannery in Moclips and for Indian Pete.

Barbara and Robert Hass were married in 1952 in Raymond and were divorced after 30 years. She had resided in Montesano for 30 years. In 1985, Barbara moved back to Taholah, then to Spokane in 2008. She lived in Tumwater from 2015 until moving to Ocean Shores in 2017.

Barbara liked to travel to Reno, Nev., and was known as a very good bread maker. She was a member of the Quinault Indian Nation.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Candace of Everett; three daughters, Linda Saux of Pacific Beach, Cleo Hass of Ocean Shores and Sherrie Hass of Spokane; three sisters, Catherine Bradley of Taholah, Ann Curley of Taholah and Joyce Watson of Whidbey Island and by numerous grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lizzie Capoeman; six brothers, Emmanuel, Rudolph, Herbert Jr., Irving, Norman and Ralph Capoeman and one sister, Charlotte Bryson.

There will be a Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Coleman Mortuary and an Indian Shaker Service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, also at the Coleman Mortuary. Entombment services will follow at the Sunset memorial Park in Hoquiam. There will be a dinner in Taholah following the entombment.
