Winkelman will run for mayor of Hoquiam

Hoquiam City Councilman Ben Winkelman has announced he will run for mayor of Hoquiam.

”After careful consideration and consultation with family and friends, I have decided it is most appropriate to announce my candidacy for the elected position of mayor of the City of Hoquiam,” Winkelman announced on Facebook Monday.

Winkelman has been on the City Council since 2008, representing Ward 4. He is an attorney at Parker, Winkelman and Parker in Hoquiam and co-owner and vice president of GH Unders, which produces performance base-layer clothing — also in Hoquiam.

“I grew up enjoying the beauty of this area and the close-knit communities that make life so pleasing in Grays Harbor. Since returning to Grays Harbor after graduating from Gonzaga Law School in 2003, I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my time working with the employees and citizens of the City of Hoquiam,” said Winkelman.

Winkelman coaches local youth sports and serves on numerous volunteer boards.

“Celebrating our rich history and nurturing the healthy roots of our friendly city make my participation in local government so rewarding,” said Winkelman. “I have a strong desire to make Hoquiam the best place to live, work and play. As mayor of the City of Hoquiam I would particularly enjoy working with other elected officials, agencies, organizations, employees, businesses and our citizens to make the friendliest city of Hoquiam your home town.”
