Whipped cream model and other delights for Record Store Day

At least eight live acts start at 10 a.m.

Anyone who grew up in the ’60s and ’70s will no doubt remember Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass “Whipped Cream and Other Delights” album from 1965 — if not for Alpert’s masterful trumpet playing, then for the unforgettable album cover featuring a woman dressed mostly in whipped cream.

The model, Dolores Erickson, now lives in Longview, and she’ll be at Boomtown Records in Aberdeen from 1 to 3 p.m. today as part of National Record Store Day. If you have a copy of the album, she’ll sign it for you free. If you don’t, Boomtown has them and you can get a signed copy for $20.

In addition, Boomtown owner Troy Richart is hosting local musicians from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the store’s intimate Acoustic Lounge.

Here’s the lineup:

10 a.m. — Emmanuel Simmons

11 a.m. — Casey Bronson

noon — John Brunton

1 p.m. — Ryan Mo

2 p.m. — Conner Nuckols

3 p.m. — Jarod Peterson

4 p.m. — Chris Thomas

The store also is featuring the work of famed rock photographer Darrell Westmoreland, who has captured the likes of the Rolling Stones, Heart, AC/DC and Alice in Chains. Among the works on sale is a limited-edition 20×30 canvas Nirvana print that features Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in Santa hats backstage at the Paramount Theater in Seattle after a Halloween 1991 concert. The print, limited to 500 copies, is signed by Westmoreland, whose studio is in Montesano.
