WEfish will hold meeting Thursday to discuss Westport Fisherman’s Memorial

Ideas sought for improving memorial to reflect respect, honor for those lost at sea

WEfish will hold meeting

Westport-based WEfish Washington will hold a meeting Thursday at McCausland Hall at 1020 West Ocean Avenue in Westport at 5:30 p.m.to discuss the future of the Fisherman’s Memorial on Neddie Rose Drive.

“This is just a gathering to collect feedback from stakeholders,” said WEfish President Molly Bold. “The memorial is very old and in ill repair; it’s in pretty rough shape.”

WEfish is looking for ideas on improving it, asking: Do you think the current physical state of the memorial is satisfactory? What improvements/changes would you like to see to the memorial? Are you opposed to or in favor of moving the memorial to a new location?

“It’s on a very narrow roundabout,” said Bold. “It gets hit frequently by cars, so one of the questions is should it be moved or renewed. Something has to happen to do a better job of honoring those we’ve lost at sea.”
