Under new ownership, Brunch 101 to have expanded menu, hours when it reopens in early 2019

Brunch 101, the Hoquiam restaurant that created a sensation for a couple of months last summer then abruptly closed, has a new owner.

Brittany Figg-Case is preparing for a grand reopening sometime in February featuring an expanded menu and expanded hours.

Figg-Case opened the popular CaKecaKes bakery on East Wishkah Street in Aberdeen in March 2014 and already knows what her fans are thinking: What happens to the bakery?

“CaKecaKes will remain its own place,” she said. “It’s not going to go anywhere, it’s going to stay right here in downtown Aberdeen.”

Figg-Case said when she purchased Brunch 101, located at 716 Simpson Ave., she retained rights to the name and the menu. She plans to keep some of the favorites of the original menu, but add to it.

“We are going to stick with the brunch theme, but the menu will not be exactly the same,” she said. “We will have some of the staple brunch items that everyone likes, but will have a little more to offer.”

Figg-Case said the place is “pretty much turnkey” and more or less ready for operation, with a few minor modifications for efficiency’s sake.

“The flow of the kitchen is just a little odd,” she said. Fortunately, Figg-Case’s husband, Anthony, is executive chef at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino and knows how to direct the flow of traffic in a busy kitchen.

“With a couple of minor adjustments, we can get the kitchen area to run a lot more efficiently,” said Figg-Case.

Currently she is working on hiring about six staff members, including an executive chef, prep cooks, servers, a hostess and dishwashers. Resumes can be emailed to thebrunch101@gmail.com.
