Police cruiser vs impaired driver wreck leads to charges for Prosser man

An alleged impaired driver was involved in an accident with a Long Beach Police Department vehicle on State Route 103 and Sid Snyder Drive in Long Beach late Monday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Neither the officer nor the 61-year-old Prosser man who reportedly caused the accident were injured, according to the report.

The Prosser driver was northbound on 103 shortly after 10 p.m. The 41-year-old officer from Chinook was eastbound on Sid Snyder Drive in a marked Long Beach Police cruiser with emergency equipment activated, according to the report. As the cruiser entered the intersection, the Prosser driver failed to yield and, despite evasive action by the officer, his car was hit on the passenger side.

The Prosser driver is now facing charges of DUI and second-degree negligent driving, according to the State Patrol.

Another accident, this one in Grays Harbor County, resulted in injuries Monday, according to the State Patrol.

It occurred on Highway 101 a mile north of Amanda Park about 6 p.m. A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 22-year-old Aberdeen woman was southbound when her vehicle went off the roadway to the right, rolled and came to a rest on its passenger side. The State Patrol statement blames speed too fast for the conditions for the accident. the woman was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
