Oktoberfest on Sept. 30 benefits two Hoquiam churches

Saron Lutheran and First Presbyterian

Saron Lutheran and First Presbyterian churches of Hoquiam are hosting Oktoberfest next week with proceeds benefiting community projects.

The event is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Saron Lutheran Church, 708 8th St.

Tickets are $20 per adult and $10 per youth and are available at Harbor Drug, Saron Lutheran Church or at the door. The cost of the ticket covers entry into a door prize drawing, live entertainment, non-alcoholic drinks and a large German-themed meal. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Local musicians scheduled to perform include Christine Hill, Ken Albert, Jetta Smith and Connor Nukols. Tickets may be purchased at Harbor Drug and Gifts, Saron Lutheran Church or at the door.

Proceeds will benefit the plan to expand First Presbyterian’s facility into a larger community garden, purchasing hygiene and school items for distribution by local churches and nonprofits, other assistance for families and neighbors in need, and funding Saron’s new monthly after school and free dinner program.

On the second Wednesday of each month, Saron will provide after school activities and homework help for students starting at 1:30 p.m. A free community dinner will be offered from 5:30-6:30 and everyone is welcome.
