No injuries reported in Aberdeen house fire

A house fire in Aberdeen caused extensive damage to the attic and second floor Friday morning, according to Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard. No injuries were reported.

The Aberdeen Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 Block of Simpson Avenue at 6:24 a.m. Friday, for the report of an electrical issue and the presence of smoke and flames on the second floor of the residence.

On arrival, firefighters observed a well-involved attic fire with flames venting from the roof vents of the structure. The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes and crews remained on-scene for two hours performing overhaul and the initial fire investigation.

Initial response to the fire included eight personnel from the Aberdeen Fire Department consisting of one command vehicle, two fire engines and one medic unit along with a fire engine and two personnel from the Hoquiam Fire Department.

At the time the fire was reported, an Aberdeen Medic Unit was engaged on an EMS call and two additional EMS calls where managed during the fire by the Aberdeen Fire Department.

The four occupants of the house were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and were able to safely exit the structure. No injuries to the occupants or the responding fire personnel were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at the moment, Hubbard said. The fire was confined to the attic and second floor bedrooms, which suffered extensive fire damage. Salvage operations were performed on the first floor of the residence to limit damage from firefighting operations.
