Learn to talk to your kids about substance abuse at April 19 Hoquiam event

Bring it Up program urges parents talk to kids about drug use, mental health issues

A community event will be held at the Hoquiam Timberland Library April 19 to give parents the tools needed to talk to their kids about drug and alcohol abuse and the state of their mental health.

Featured will be speaker Martin Fleming, founder of For KidSake, a company that provides consultation training to schools and communities across the nation. Along with drug and alcohol training, Fleming and his staff consult about issues like bullying and conducting support groups.

The presentation is sponsored Grays Harbor Public Health and Social Services’ My TOWN coalition, which focuses on programs that get young people, families and parents the information they need to help reduce substance abuse and other destructive behavior.

The presentation is titled Bring it Up and urges parents to actively communicate with their children about any substance abuse or mental health issues they may already have, and give them the skills to prevent such behaviors.

The presentation is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. The library is located at 420 7th St. in Hoquiam.
