Hoquiam Police arrest SR109 shooting suspects

Two men were arrested Monday after a passenger in a car traveling south on State Route 109 near Grass Creek Loop north of Hoquiam shot at mailboxes from the moving vehicle.

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers said the call came in around 6:30 p.m. Monday, and an officer responded to the area of State Route 109 near the State Route 109 spur to wait for the suspect vehicle, which was spotted a few minutes later.

Two officers conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle “before it entered the more populated areas of town, especially John Gable Park which was hosting several softball games,” said Myers. “The suspect vehicle rolled along for some distance before finally stopping on SR 109 near Paulson Road; the occupants were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint.”

Myers said it was determined the 39-year-old Auburn driver was intoxicated and he was arrested for DUI by a State Trooper.

“A deputy sheriff from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department responded and took custody of the passenger, a 43-year-old Seattle man, for shooting from the moving vehicle,” said Myers. That suspect was also determined to be intoxicated and a 9mm pistol was recovered from the car, said Myers.
