High school kids can take career classes this summer

The Twin Harbors branch of New Market Skills Center is offering summer skills classes free of charge for high school students in grades 9-12. Two sessions will be offered and students can earn 0.5 credits in any course successfully completed.

Summer classes are offered in Aberdeen; the first session will run June 18 to July 6 with no class July 3 and 4, while the second session is scheduled for July 9-25. Classes will run each weekday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch provided. Students can register for summer classes online at twinharbors.asd5.org by linking to Twin Harbors summer registration. The online summer registration is open until June 11.

Courses in Culinary Arts, Construction Basics, Automotive Technology, Health Care Careers, Computer Animation, and Photography and Graphic Arts. Cultivating Roots (food production and nutrition) and Cosmetology are also available and will operate on a different schedule.

Established in 2010, Twin Harbors serves students from 10 different school districts including: Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Lake Quinault, Montesano, North Beach, Ocosta, Raymond, South Bend, Willapa Valley and Wishkah Valley.

Registration is also open now for fall programs which will include Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Professional Medical Careers, Cosmetology and Criminal Justice. A continuing program in collaboration with Grays Harbor College is available in Medical Assisting as well. The fall programs run through the 2018-19 school year, and all lead toward some type of college credit as well as an industry certification.
