Gun brandished after altercation on South Washington Street

Two men arguing over a parking space at an apartment complex behind Duffy’s Restaurant on Simpson Avenue led to the arrest of one of the men on assault and gun charges, according to a release by Aberdeen Police Detective Jeff Weiss.

The incident began about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. After the initial argument, both men left at the same time, the victim following the suspect vehicle as it came to a stop in the 200 block of South Washington Street.

Police give this account: The suspect got out of his vehicle and confronted the victim with a handgun, pointing it at the victim through the windshield. The suspect told the victim to quit following him or he would kill him. The victim called police and continued to follow the suspect vehicle. Police located the suspect vehicle with the male driver and female passenger. After investigation and cooperation from the passenger, the suspect was arrested for first degree assault. The female was released at the scene, and a search warrant for the vehicle was executed Wednesday. Inside detectives found drug paraphernalia and the handgun used in the altercation. The suspect refused to be interviewed by detectives and was booked for Assault First Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
