Delivery of four large bridge girders to stop traffic on State Route 8 Thursday

WSDOT: Drivers can expect delays of 15 minutes several times throughout the day

Traffic on State Route 8 will be halted several times between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday as the Dept. of Transportation delivers and installs four large bridge girders as part of the two-year fish barrier removal project on the middle and east forks of Wildcat Creek. Drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

The new bridge sections will replace culverts determined to be barriers for salmon and other fish traveling upriver to spawn. Two of the bridges, about 110 feet long each, will cross the Middle Fork. The other two, 160-foot spans will cross over the East Fork.

Drivers on State Route 8 in the McCleary area will continue to face one lane in each direction traffic and a reduced speed limit of 45 mph through the summer of 2019, when construction is expected to be complete. The State Route 8 and State Route 108 intersection will be closed around the clock to all traffic until construction is complete.
