Another slide on U.S. 101 at Cosi hill

A section of Highway 101 south of Cosmopolis at milepost 78.6 is now reduced to one-way alternating traffic after recent heavy rains triggered earth movement under the highway.

Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews are monitoring the slide location, where a portion of the southbound shoulder sank more than a foot. The settlement also caused cracks to develop across a portion of the roadway.

The one-way alternating traffic will remain in place until further notice.

Although only roughly 1,000 feet away, this settlement is unrelated to a separate U.S. 101 slide that is the subject of a slope stabilization project.
