Senior fitness program relocated after museum fire

For 10 years, the Aberdeen senior fitness program conducted classes at the Aberdeen Museum of History. But in the wake of the June 9 Armory fire, the program had to find a new home.

After many generous offers of space to continue the class, the program has been relocated to the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen, 420 N. Broadway St. — just a block away from the Armory.

“It makes sense to keep the program as close to possible to the original location,” said Daniela Werner, instructor for the 10 years of the SAIL exercise program. “The participants can adjust to the new location without changing days, times or travel arrangements.”

Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness help adults stay active and reduce their chance of falling. The exercises can be done standing or sitting.

Classes resumed last week at the church and will continue there at 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday.

The sessions are open to any senior or limited-mobility participant. Each class is $2, with the first class free.

As a thank-you for the space, all classes will be free for members of First Presbyterian Church.
